Taking the experience of NOE to the next level thanks to the
Apple Watch

this CASE STUDY

Description

NOE for Apple watch is an application that seeks to complement the app for mobile devices. Acting as a tool for the user to be able of have a quick and easy access to NOE.

Problem

How might we create an engaging way to add content using the Apple Watch?

According to NOE's case study, the main problem to solve is being able to find a way for the user to add his content. In this sense, making available the possibility of adding content using the apple watch could enhance the user experience.

Constraints

Having already focus on NOE for smartphone, there is a  limitation of time and budget for this project. That's the main reason why we couldn't afford testing the users as we prior did for the smartphone app.

Finding the problem

UNDERSTAND APPLE WATCH ECOSYSTEM

Designing for apple watch requires having in mind the key importance of quick interactions. That's why, one of the main objectives is to create a design that allows the user to add content in his library just in a few taps.

Concerning the navigation on the Apple Watch, there is two main systems: Page-based Navigation and Hierarchical Navigation.

Page-Based Navigation: Users swipe horizontally to navigate from page to page. There should be some dots to indicate in which page the user is navigating.

Hierarchical Navigation: When the user taps an item in a hierarchy, there is a new screen that appears.

In this case, I used a hierarchical navigation because it is the best way for the user to add content. That's because, I think that by completing every step of the process, the sense of achievement will increase giving the user a better experience.

USER MAP

Being established that the objective is to focus on creating the best possible experience for the user when adding their content, it is time to think about the possible ways that the user could have to complete this task. That is why, by doing this exercise, we were able to think of two different alternatives for the user, also seeing what the pain-points could be during this process.

SKETCH

To help ideas flow, nothing better than sketching to explore different concepts. To that end, I did the following exercises. First, some note taking to remember again the problems that the user faced and the different alternatives that we came out. Second, starting to sketch rough ideas on limited time. Third, I did some crazy 8’s to start exploring some transitions between screens. And, finally, taking some screens from the crazy 8’s I came with the final solution. .

Prototype

After going through the whole process, getting to design the prototype in Figma was the easiest part and one of the most fun of the whole process. Of course, making the prototype in one day was a challenge that allowed me to test my skills to work under pressure.

Challenges

Being my first design for an apple watch app, there is some constraints to take when you are starting with this process. However, I think the apple watch opens new possibilities to bring a better experience to the users. In that sense, being able to create a NOE's ecosystem will enhance the overall experience of the user. Not only regarding the apple watch app, but in addition to the smartphone app giving the user all the tools for him to add his content on the way that he prefers.
